In Game 2 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars on Friday, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid accomplished something even Wayne Gretzky never did.
With an assist on Brett Kulak’s second-period goal, McDavid became just the fourth player in NHL history to record four straight 20-point post-seasons.
He joined Sergei Fedorov (Red Wings, 1995-98), Bryan Trottier (Islanders, 1980-83) and Mike Bossy (Islanders, 1980-83) as the only players to accomplish the feat.
McDavid recorded 33, 20 and 42 points in the Oilers’ previous three playoff runs.
With his 20th point, McDavid also moved into a tie for the post-season lead with Stars forward Mikko Rantanen.
Kulak’s goal was part of a two-goal second period that gave the Oilers a 3-0 lead heading into the third period of Game 2.
