Rangers’ Jacob deGrom fails to record strikeout for first time in career

The 2025 Toronto Blue Jays have accomplished something no MLB team has since May of 2014.

They managed to last an entire Jacob deGrom start without striking out.

The two-time Cy Young winner has toed the rubber 229 times in his career, and has recorded at least one strikeout in every appearance since — until Monday.

deGrom was pulled after 5.1 innings with the Texas Rangers down 2-1 to the Blue Jays in their series opener in Arlington, marking the first time he exited with zero strikeouts since his debut.

The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year is the all-time leader in strikeout-to-walk ratio with 5.40 in his 12 MLB seasons.

He has made 11 starts in 2025 for the Rangers and holds a 10th ranked 2.33 ERA after Monday’s start.

Now 37, he is trying to complete his first full season since 2019, after battling multiple injuries and making just 20 starts from 2021-2024, including a span of more than 500 days without taking the field.

The Rangers rotations is off to a hot start with Nathan Eovaldi (1.60) and Tyler Mahle (1.80) both in the top five in ERA across the majors.
