Senators sign defenceman Tyler Kleven to two-year, $3.2 million contract extension

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Tyler Kleven to a two-year, $3.2 million contract extension, the team announced Monday.

Kleven was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

The 23-year-old from Fargo, N.D., recorded 10 points (four goals and six assists) in 79 games during the regular season and averaged 14:28 in ice time.

He also played in all six playoff games during the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs and added a pair of assists.

“Tyler continued to elevate his game in his first NHL season, which was a good sign,” GM Steve Staios said in a release. “We expect his game will continue to develop.”

Kleven was drafted in the second round, 44th overall, by the Senators in 2020.

He has 13 points (four goals and nine assists) in 96 career games over three seasons in Ottawa.
