The Toronto Blue Jays‘ bold promotion is now official.
Starter Trey Yesavage has been called up to the MLB team, the Blue Jays announced on Monday.
In a corresponding move, left-handed reliever Ryan Borucki was designated for assignment.
Yesavage is set to make his debut later Monday when he starts against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 2024 first-round pick has dominated at four minor-league levels in his first professional season, striking out 160 opponents over just 98 innings.
The 22-year-old holds a 3.12 ERA across all minor-league levels on the season.
Borucki, 31, was caught in a numbers game with Yesavage needing a spot on the 40-man roster.
In four games during his second stint with the Blue Jays this season, the lefty has blanked opponents through 4.1 innings, striking out five while allowing three hits and four walks.
Yesavage and the Blue Jays start their four-game series against the Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field Monday with live coverage on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.
