Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores 20 or more points in 100th straight game

Following a 128-120 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on March 6, 2024, rising superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said, “My whole life is consistent” in an on-court post-game interview after a 37-point performance.

While that wasn’t the day his streak began, it was the day his mantra of consistency was set in stone, paving the way for a 100-game streak of scoring 20 or more points and becoming the first guard in NBA history to do so.

Gilgeous-Alexander hit that century mark on Monday, netting his 20th and 21st points of the game on a mid-range jumper — his bread and butter — over Memphis Grizzlies forward GG Jackson Jr.

The Hamilton, Ont., native began his streak on Nov. 1, 2024, the fifth game of the 2024-25 season. From that point on, consistent became an understatement and he coasted his way to a scoring title and a place in history.

At times, 20 points weren’t enough. Over the 2024-25 season, Gilgeous-Alexander netted 30 or more points 49 times, 40 or more points 13 times and 50 or more points four times.

He’s taken it to another level this year, scoring under 25 points only three times. He came into Monday leading the league in total points with 878, 79 more than second-place Donovan Mitchell, all while sitting out a good chunk of fourth quarters as his Thunder squad has cruised to a 25-3 record.

Though the century mark is impressive, 26 games stand between Gilgeous-Alexander and history. Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain holds the record at 126 games.

Should SGA remain as consistent as ever and avoid missing any games due to rest or injury, he’s in line to tie Chamberlain’s record on Feb. 11 against the Phoenix Suns or pass the record on Feb. 12 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
