5 Autumn Trends My 57-Year-Old Mum and I Agree Are Worth Buying

For the sake of this article, I wish I could claim that my mum and I don’t always agree on fashion matters, that we have completely opposing taste, and that we rarely, if ever, think of buying or wearing the same things. In fact, ever since I can remember we’ve been pretty much on the same page when it comes to fashion and style. We both err on the more classic side but can’t resist a truly great trend piece when we come across one. We also like to keep it pretty simple and aim to only buy items that are investment-worthy so they can stay in our collective closets for years or, better yet, decades.

In case that sounds like anyone else’s vibe, I figured why not get my mum on the phone (again) and talk about which A/W 20 trends we think are worth actually buying into for the coming season and beyond. After some back-and-forth, we were able to settle on a solid five, all of which I think you’ll be quite pleased with. To see, read about, and, of course, shop each, just keep scrolling.

Neutral colour trends are among the smartest fashion investments because while you may shop for the perfect, coordinating look, now, you can also wear the pieces separately for years to come.

You can just tell by looking at these classic, ladylike handbags that they’ll stay in your rotation forever. In fact, my mum already has a collection of them I just may “shop” from rather than buying something new.

As my mum says, leather always comes back for autumn and winter, so buying into it now is truly an investment for future seasons.

If you don’t already own a pair of snug over-the-knee boots from seasons past, we suggest buying one in order to achieve A/W 20’s legs in leather trend ASAP.

Of the many, many suiting trends that went down the runways in February, we couldn’t help but name the skirt suit as a favourite. While it’s always evolving (as seen through Monse’s forward take below), it remains a staple that you’ll revisit time and time again.

Next up, the biggest autumn/winter 2020 fashion trends to know.
