European summer is officially underway. As celebrities have flocked to the continent’s most beautiful coasts, our holiday outfit Pinterest boards have received a healthy top-up of inspiration.
Alexa Chung has taken her summer adventures to the Greek island Hydra, with a suitcase full of enviable looks in tandem. Off the back of a trip to the Italian coast, when Chung grabbed our attention with her playful take on Italian dressing, the model and designer has graced us with an extended lesson plan in European summer styling.
As temperatures spike to an all-time high, dressing for summer in mainland Europe calls for garments that first and foremost keep one cool. In pursuit of remaining comfortable throughout the day, Alexa swapped out an LBD for a LWD, styling a silky white minidress from Ukrainian brand Anna October with the season’s favourite Miu Miu ballet flats. Only weeks prior she broke in her ballet flats in London, styling them with juxtaposing leopard capri pants and an oversized white shirt; before taking the pair to the Amalfi Coast and channeling balletcore with a voluminous flared dress.
As we’ve learnt from past scorching summers, a light layer can be the trick to keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the day–allowing you to ditch and reapply the layer as the temperature decrees.
Whilst back home Londoners are digging around their knitwear draw for thick layers to withstand the chilly summer, under the Greek sun Alexa opted for a light knit cardigan draped over a sheer top. The breezy look was styled with a billowy white skirt from cult-brand Dôen.
As warm as the summer days can get, European summer nights are known to drop down many degrees, so a stylish layer will not go amiss.
Bringing a distinctly out-of-office twist to an otherwise weekday favourite. The designer styled a blue pin-striped shirt loosely layered over a crop top and high-waisted shorts combo, finished off with Vibi Venezia’s velvet flats. Another winner when cobbled streets and cascading steps are involved.
