HAMILTON, Ont. — The Montreal Alouettes pulled off another unlikely upset beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24 to win the 110th Grey Cup, ending their 13-year championship drought.
Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo threw a last-minute touchdown to Tyson Philpot to seal the win for Montreal.
Trailing 17-7 heading into the second half, the Alouettes would score 14 unanswered points with Austin Mack scoring a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give them their first lead of the night.
Winnipeg would retake the lead in the fourth quarter off a touchdown sneak by Dakota Prukop.
Jason Maas, who joined Montreal last off-season picked up his first championship win as a head coach and his fourth title overall.
Montreal last won a Grey Cup back in 2010 with Anthony Calvillo, the team’s quarterback’s coach, leading the team past the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
