Angels’ Taylor Ward leaves game after being struck in face by Blue Jays’ Manoah

Toronto’s game against the visiting Angels was briefly halted on Saturday when starting Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah hit Los Angeles batter Taylor Ward in the head with a pitch.

Ward immediately dropped to the ground with blood spewing from his face.

After several minutes, a vehicle was brought on to the field to help Ward depart, though he was able to walk and step into the cart on his own, a towel held to his face.

The bases were loaded at the time, which gave the Angels a 1-0 lead.

Manoah, who has had a difficult season to date, which included a stint in the minors, had not allowed a run over four innings, on four hits, three weeks, and six strikeouts.

He was subsequently pulled from the game after hitting Ward.
