At least two people have died and several others injured in an incident in the German town of Trier after a car plowed through a pedestrianized zone Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area as investigations into the incident are carried out and a security cordon established.
“Several injured people who were hit by a car in the pedestrian zone in #Trier . Please avoid the area, the police are on site together with other emergency services,” Trier police tweeted.

German media outlet SWR reported that the driver of the vehicle had been detained by police but the exact circumstances of the incident have yet to be established.
SWR is reporting that two people were killed and ten people were injured, which was confirmed by police.
