Baylor escapes punishment around allegations of sexual assault

The infractions committee for US college sports’ governing body, the NCAA, said on Wednesday that its years-long investigation into the Baylor sexual assault scandal would result in four years probation and other sanctions for rules surrounding recruitment and academic violations.

However, the college will not be punished for allegations around sexual assault. Five years ago, a law firm hired by Baylor concluded that senior figures around the college’s football team had on occasion chosen “not to report sexual violence”. The NCAA investigation concluded on Wednesday that the “unacceptable” behavior at the heart of the case did not violate its rules.
