Blue Jays aim to run winning streak to 10 against White Sox

It’s starting to feel a little like 2015.

The Toronto Blue Jays can run their winning streak to 10 games on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox, which would leave them just one shy of the franchise record last matched one decade ago.

Toronto also enjoyed 11-game winning streaks in 1987, 1998 and 2013.

Of course, that 2015 squad — which reeled off 11-game runs twice — would go on to a memorable playoff run to the ALCS, punctuated by Jose Bautista’s prodigious bat flip one round earlier against the Texas Rangers.

These Blue Jays, who lead the AL East by 3.5 games at 53-38, still have 71 games remaining in the regular season, starting with the visit to the White Sox.

Live coverage will begin at 7:40 p.m. ET / 4:40 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.

    Broadcast Schedule

Chris Bassitt (8-4, 4.32 ERA) is set to start for Toronto after two straight shaky appearances. On June 28 — marking the last Blue Jays loss — the veteran righty lasted just two innings against the Boston Red Sox, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and four walks.

He settled down some in his following start against the New York Yankees, pitching 5.2 innings of three-run baseball to earn the win.

Opposing Bassitt on the hill for the White Sox will be Aaron Civale (1-5, 4.60), who was acquired by Chicago in June after he was demoted from the Milwaukee Brewers rotation and subsequently requested a trade.

The White Sox sit in the AL Central basement at 30-61, but remain the last team to beat the Blue Jays in a series after taking two of three at the Rogers Centre from June 20-22.

A Tuesday victory for the Blue Jays would give them a fifth straight series win since that point.

Toronto won the series opener 8-4 against Chicago on Monday with Joey Loperfido, Addison Barger and Nathan Lukes all bashing home runs.

Loperfido, who was called up from triple-A for his season debut on Sunday, is off to a strong start to his season, going 3-for-7 with one homer and four RBIs in two games.

The series finale between the Blue Jays and White Sox is set for Wednesday at 2:10 p.m. ET / 11:10 a.m. ET. Toronto then has a day off before heading to Sacramento for a three-game series with the Athletics followed by the All-Star Game in Atlanta, where Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk are the team’s lone representatives.
