Addison Barger‘s season is off to a less-than-ideal start.
The Toronto Blue Jays third baseman was forced to leave his first appearance of spring training after being hit on the hand during Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
Toronto called the injury a right hand contusion.
Barger was hit on a fastball from Red Sox starter Garrett Crochet that ran inside on the left-handed batter. The pitch was ruled to hit the knob of Barger’s bat and was called a foul ball.
He was replaced mid-at-bat by infield prospect Charles McAdoo, who ended up striking out.
The 25-year-old Barger is competing for a spot on the Blue Jays this spring. In 2025, he appeared in 69 games with Toronto, slashing .197/.250/.351 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs.
