Bo Bichette took another step toward what he hopes is a late-season return to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
The shortstop went 1-for-3 with a single and also made a throwing error for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons before he was removed in the middle of the fifth against the Gwinnett Stripers.
Along with his line-drive single, Bichette grounded out twice to former Blue Jays teammate Cavan Biggio, who was playing second base for Atlanta’s triple-A team. The latter groundout was a double play.
The 26-year-old Bichette had not played since July 19 due to a calf strain. He has been on the injured list twice this season because of the same injury.
Bichette was in the midst of the poorest offensive output of his six-year career before the injury with a .222/.275/.320 slash line and just four home runs through 80 games this season.
