The Toronto Blue Jays won’t see their star shortstop back in the regular season, but they can still breathe a sigh of relief knowing they escaped the worst-case scenario.
Manager John Schneider told reporters on Tuesday that the second opinion Bo Bichette received on his sprained knee was “positive,” and confirmed only rest and rehabilitation is required for recovery.
He added there is still no timetable on his return, but confirmed it won’t be before the post-season.
The 27-year-old Bichette, a two-time All-Star, was injured Sept. 6 on a play at home plate against the Yankees and landed on the 10-day injured list.
Bichette was having a strong season before the injury, batting .311 with 18 home runs, 94 RBIs and an .840 OPS in 139 games. He leads the majors in hits (181) and doubles (44).
The Blue Jays have 12 games remaining in the regular season and are closing in on earning a bye to the division series.
Toronto continues a road series against the Rays Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET/ 4:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
