The Toronto Blue Jays have clinched a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and eighth time in franchise history.
With a 4-1 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday, the Blue Jays locked up the eighth and final post-season berth in the American League.
The Blue Jays’ accomplishment also means for the first time in history, Toronto teams from the three major sports leagues have made the playoffs in the same calendar year.
The club’s last post-season appearance saw them fall to the Cleveland Indians in the second of back-to-back runs to the AL Championship Series.
