Blue Jays clinch post-season berth with win over Royals

It’s official. The Toronto Blue Jays are heading back to the post-season.

The Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 8-5 on Sunday, locking down their 90th win of the season and becoming the first American League team to secure their spot in the six-team playoff field.

Toronto held off the Royals, thanks to an improved offensive performance than it had seen over its four-game losing streak. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Addison Barger and George Springer each collected RBI doubles in the win.

After a disappointing last-place finish in 2024, the Blue Jays will return to the post-season after making the wild-card round in the previous two seasons. However, this time around, Toronto will hope to clinch an AL East title and a bye to the ALDS with six games remaining in the regular season.

It will be the 11th playoff appearance in franchise history.

More to come.
