The Toronto Blue Jays are about to bolster their bullpen as they are close to a deal for Miami Marlins right-handed relievers Zach Pop and Anthony Bass, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports.
Pop, a native of Brampton, Ont., is 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 18 innings this year. Bass, who also played for the Blue Jays in 2020, is 2-3 with a 1.41 ERA.
Prospect shortstop Jordan Groshans will go to Miami as part of the deal.
Pop, 25, is under team control through the 2026 season. Bass, 34, has a team option on his contract for next season.
Pop broke into the big leagues with Florida last year. He has struck out 14 and walked two this year.
Bass also has a good strikeout-walk ratio (45-10).
Bass was 2-3 with a 3.51 ERA with the Blue Jays in 2020 after he was picked up off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
More to come.
