The World Series will head to Los Angeles tied at one.
The Toronto Blue Jays dropped Game 2 of the Fall Classic to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-1, on Saturday after a night of dominant starting pitching.
Kevin Gausman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto went toe-to-toe on the evening, with both settling in through the middle innings after shaky starts.
The Dodgers struck first, using a two-out rally to score in the first inning, when Will Smith followed a Freddie Freeman double with an RBI single.
Gausman put it on cruise control from there, however, as he retired 17 batters in a row between the end of the first and the beginning of the seventh.
It was in the seventh that the Dodgers’ bats finally broke through. Smith and Max Muncy hit solo shots to chase Gausman and take the lead.
Los Angeles added on a pair of runs in the eighth on a wild pitch and a Smith RBI fielder’s choice.
Toronto scored in the third when Alejandro Kirk brought George Springer home on a sacrifice fly. Springer was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and was singled to third by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Yamamoto ended the game with his second complete game of this post-season.
More to come.
