Blue Jays lose to Dodgers, World Series going to Game 7

The World Series is going the distance.

The Toronto Blue Jays dropped Game 6 on Friday night, 3-1, to the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers after a second strong start from Yoshinobu Yamamoto in this Fall Classic. With the win, the Dodgers staved off elimination and forced a Game 7 on Saturday at Rogers Centre (Sportsnet, 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT).

Toronto got a solid showing from starter Kevin Gausman, with the righty striking out eight over six innings.

Gausman got off to a hot start, picking up all eight of his punchouts in the first three innings of the game.

Los Angeles, however, got to him in the third. After Tommy Edman hit a one-out double, the Dodgers went on to mount a two-out rally. Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked before Will Smith drove an RBI double down the left-field line, leaving runners on second and third.

Freddie Freeman then walked and Mookie Betts brought in two with a single.

The Blue Jays answered in the bottom half when George Springer brought home Addison Barger, who had previously doubled and advanced to third.

Yamamoto ended up working six innings of his own, striking out six after throwing a complete game in Game 2 of the series.

The Dodgers escaped a jam in the bottom of the eighth when the Blue Jays put runners on first and second with one out, but closer Roki Sasaki got Bo Bichette to pop out and Daulton Varsho to ground out to keep the lead.

Toronto had runners on second and third with no out in the ninth before Tyler Glasnow came in to end the Blue Jays’ final threat.

The Dodgers had a double play to end it as Andres Gimenez lined out to left before left-fielder Kiké Hernández fired back to second to double up Addison Barger.
