Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game to catcher Danny Jansen on Tuesday, manager John Schneider told reporters before Monday’s game in Houston.
Manoah has been building up after dealing with shoulder soreness and inflammation during spring training, and started the year on the 15-day injured list.
Jansen, who began the season on the 10-day IL, started swinging again on Friday after suffering a fractured pisiform during Grapefruit League action. Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reported Friday that the 28-year-old catcher still needs to take batting practice and face velocity before returning to Toronto’s lineup.
Schneider also provided updates on injured relievers Erik Swanson (forearm) and Jordan Romano (elbow), both of whom are currently on the 15-day IL.
Swanson threw a bullpen Monday and “felt good.” He last threw a side session on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Romano is slated to return to a mound on Tuesday. He has been playing catch in recent days.
Schneider’s final update came on first baseman Joey Votto, who has returned to doing defensive work, but has yet to return to swinging. He is still working his way back from an ankle injury suffered during his first spring training game.
You can watch as the Blue Jays kick off a three-game series against the Astros Monday on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, starting at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT.
