The American League-leading Toronto Blue Jays return home for a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. First game is Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT, with live coverage on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
Right-hander Ben Brown (5-7, 6.04 ERA) takes the mound for the Cubs. Brown has been deployed both as a starter and a reliever this season. In his previous outing against the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 4, Brown came in for starter Michael Soroka, who left after two innings with shoulder discomfort. Brown gave up just one run in four innings during a 3-2 loss. Brown has 104 strikeouts in 92.1 innings this season.
After dropping their first two games, the Blue Jays (69-50) salvaged their trip to Los Angeles with a 5-4 win in the series finale against the Dodgers on Sunday. Reliever Mason Fluharty earned his first career save while producing one of the most dramatic moments of the season, striking out Shohei Ohtani with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also stepped up under the bright lights of Los Angeles, tying the game with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Guerrero homered three times during the six-game road trip. He’ll look to keep it going in Toronto after hitting just three home runs in the previous 17 home games.
The Blue Jays play at home for the next six games. Toronto extended its AL East lead to 4.5 games after the Boston Red Sox lost on Monday.
Chicago (67-50) has lost three of its last four series but continues to hold on to the top wild-card spot in the National League.
