Toronto Blue Jays starter Hyun Jin Ryu left Monday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians after taking a comebacker off the inside of his right knee.
According to the team, the left-handed pitcher suffered a contusion.
The incident happened in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs while the Guardians’ Oscar Gonzalez was up to the plate. After being hit, Ryu was able to record the out to end the inning before collapsing in visible pain.
He was able to walk off the field and down the steps on his own and was replaced by reliever Jay Jackson.
Ryu made his return to the Blue Jays lineup for the first time in a year last week against the Baltimore Orioles after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
