Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer exited Friday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a left ankle sprain after attempting to catch a fly ball in the bottom of the second inning.
The three-time All-Star leaped near the centre-field wall to catch a ball hit by Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe before landing awkwardly. He was checked out by the training staff.
Springer finished the inning in the outfield before taking an at-bat in the top of the third and ultimately left the game afterward.
Raimel Tapia replaced Springer in the Blue Jays’ lineup.
