Blue Jays’ Springer has low-grade quad strain, won’t return this homestand

Toronto Blue Jays star outfielder George Springer has a low-grade strain in his right quad and will not be ready to return during the club’s current homestand, manager Charlie Montoyo told reporters Thursday.

Springer’s debut with the Blue Jays, whom he joined on a six-year, $150-million deal in the off-season, continues to be put on hold. The 31-year-old felt tightness when running the bases and underwent an MRI on Tuesday night.

Montoyo said at the time that Springer had no issues with his strained left oblique, which had previously kept him on the sidelines.

The Blue Jays kick off a seven-game homestand Thursday, starting with a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels.

Springer opened the season on the injured list after not playing any exhibition games since March 21.
