Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer ran sprint drills in Buffalo on Saturday and is getting closer to a potential rehab stint with triple-A Buffalo.
“Today was the best day he’s had so far,” Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo told reporters of Springer’s workout.
There’s still no timeframe for when Springer could begin a rehab stint.
Springer, who is currently rehabbing from a quad injury, ran “hard” first-to-third drills and straight-line sprints in the outfield, according to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson. He also did throwing drills and took batting practice.
The 29-year-old has played just four games for the Blue Jays in 2021 after signing a six-year, $150-million contract with the club in the off-season. Springer has two home runs and three RBI in 18 plate appearances for Toronto.
