The Toronto Blue Jays are recalling top prospect Gabriel Moreno ahead of their weekend series against the Detroit Tigers, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports.
MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson first reported that Moreno will be joining Toronto. Davidi adds that Moreno may not be active for the opener Friday in Detroit, but will be at some point in the series.
MLB Pipeline has Moreno ranked as the fourth overall prospect in baseball. The 22-year-old has been off to a strong start with triple-A Buffalo this season, slashing .324/.380/.404 with a home run and 23 RBIs in 36 games.
The move comes after catcher Danny Jansen suffered a fractured finger in his left hand from getting hit by a pitch against the Kansas City Royals on Monday.
