Bo Bichette ‘felt good’ in rehab game, expected back in Bisons lineup Thursday

Bo Bichette isn’t in the lineup for the Buffalo Bisons Wednesday but the Blue Jays aren’t concerned with the stat shortstop’s status.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Wednesday that Bichette “felt good” in a rehab game for the Bisons on Tuesday, his first game action since July.

The 26-year-old went 1-for-3 and played four innings at shortstop.

Schneider said that Bichette was on his feet more than he planned but the two-time All-Star is expected to play again on Thursday.

Bichette is working back from a calf strain that has hampered him throughout most of the 2024 season. Before being sidelined with the injury for a second time, he was slashing .222/.275/.320 with just four home runs through 80 games this season.

In addition to the update on Bichette, the Blue Jays’ skipper is keeping Leo Jimenez out of the big-league club’s lineup on Wednesday after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday’s win over the New York Mets.

Jimenez was hit in the foot by Mets starter David Peterson in the bottom of the third inning but played the rest of the game.

According to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, it was the fourth straight game that the 23-year-old has been hit.

Schneider said imaging on Jimenez’s foot came back negative, but added that the shortstop is “pretty sore pushing off of it, so (the Blue Jays) want to be careful with it.”

Jimenez is slashing .226/.335/.377 with four home runs and 17 RBIs over 51 games with Toronto this season.

Ernie Clement will handle the duties at shortstop and bat fourth as the Blue Jays go for a series win on Wednesday. You can catch all the action on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+. First pitch is scheduled for 3:07 p.m. ET / 12:07 p.m. PT.
