The Boston Bruins are moving on from pending free agent Trent Frederic as they look to the future.
The Bruins have flipped Frederic, along with forward Max Jones, to the Edmonton Oilers ahead of the trade deadline, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman confirmed on Tuesday.
To facilitate the deal and retain 50 per cent of Frederic’s salary, the New Jersey Devils will acquire forward Shane LaChance from the Oilers.
Frederic, 27, is a depth centre who has shown flashes of offence in the past. This season he has eight goals and 15 points in 57 games, while throwing 155 hits. Last season, he scored a career-high 18 goals. Frederic is currently out of the lineup with a lower-body injury but is expected to return late in the season.
He has spent his entire career with the Bruins but is on an expiring contract with a $2.3-million cap hit.
More to come.
