Canadian soccer fans will have to wait until March to officially celebrate clinching a spot in the 2022 World Cup. But they can start planning those parties now.
Canada kept pace in Concacaf World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 win over El Salvador to remain undefeated in the Octagon tournament and four points clear at the top of the table.
The top three teams at the end of the competition automatically qualify for the World Cup. The Canadians have three matches to go at the end of March — against Costa Rica, Jamaica and Panama — and would need a monumental collapse to fall out of the top three at this stage.
