Canada defeated Mexico 2-1 in Edmonton on Tuesday night, vaulting the home side into first place in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying standings.
Cyle Larin scored late in the first half and then added another goal early in the second half to give Canada some insurance.
Mexico scored in the 90th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Canada held on.
Canada has four wins and four ties in eight games, putting the team one point ahead of the U.S., and two ahead of Mexico and Panama.
The top three teams after 14 games advance to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Canada has not qualified for the World Cup since 1986.
