The Canadian men’s soccer team will have to wait until Sunday to try to lock up its first World Cup berth since 1986.
Canada lost 1-0 to Costa Rica on Thursday night, denying the visitors a spot in the 2022 World Cup for now.
Canada can clinch a spot with a win or tie against Jamaica on Sunday in Toronto.
Costa Rica scored late in the first half before Canada pressed hard in the second half, hitting the crossbar and post on two glorious chances.
The loss was Canada’s first defeat in 12 games in the final round of Concacaf qualifying.
More to come.
