Back on the pitch where it infamously lost 8-1 in 2012, Canada’s men’s national team rewrote the script by defeating Honduras 2-0 on Thursday night to remain atop the Concacaf World Cup qualifying group with just five games remaining.
Canada kicked things off with a 1-0 lead in the first half after Tajon Buchanan’s blistering cross was knocked in by a Honduran defender.
With Honduras putting pressure on Canada in the second half, Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan kept them in the game with an incredible cross-goal save.
Just three minutes later Jonathan David put Canada up 2-0 with an astonishing play of his own, all but securing the victory. Safe to say fellow star Alphonso Davies, who’s out due to myocarditis after COVID-19, was excited watching from home.
Canada next plays U.S. on Sunday and El Salvador on Feb. 2.
