Canada’s Brad Gushue loses in men’s world curling final

Canada’s Brad Gushue and his St. John’s, N.L., team of Mark Nichols, E.J. Harnden and Geoff Walker lost in the world men’s curling championship on Sunday in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, falling to Sweden’s Niklas Edin 6-5 on the final rock.

It marked the third time Edin has denied Gushue the title and his seventh overall. The Canadian has made it all the way to the final five times now in five world championship appearances. Gushue’s only victory came in Edmonton in 2017.

Edin finished atop the round robin standings with an 11-1 record, while Gushue (10-2) was second. That earned Sweden and Canada direct entries to the semifinals.

More to come.
