Canada’s Corey Conners withdraws from U.S. Open after wrist injury

OAKMONT, Pa. — Corey Conners has withdrawn from the U.S. Open.

Conners, who suffered a wrist injury Thursday after hitting a television cable and re-aggravated the injury Saturday afternoon, arrived on site at Oakmont Country Club for an abbreviated warm-up, but after approximately a half-dozen pitch shots, he was unable to continue.

He was supposed to tee off at 10:20 a.m. ET alongside last week’s RBC Canadian Open winner Ryan Fox.

Conners went to a local clinic Saturday night for some imaging work and will return for more imaging Sunday morning.

As of now, he is still in the field for the Travelers Championship next week on the PGA Tour.

Conners had an incredible start Saturday at Oakmont, going 3-under for his first five holes. But he hit his approach on No. 11 into a plugged lie and after hacking it out was seen holding his wrist.

He waited for medical attention from Canadian sports chiropractor Dr. Stuart Love but did not receive care until he was on the 12th tee due to logistical challenges at the course.

After some shakes and stretches by Dr. Love, Conners did manage to hit two shots over 300 yards on the par-5 12th but struggled coming home, shooting a 5-over 40 on his back nine.

He was 8-over for the championship heading into Sunday’s finale.

This was Conners’ first withdrawal of his PGA Tour career.

Conners’ playing partner on Saturday, Michael Kim, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he was surprised Conners continued to play on given that he was “obviously in some pain” as soon as he hit the shot on No. 11.

Conners has recorded five top-10 finishes so far this season (including at the Masters) on the PGA Tour and sits ninth in the FedExCup standings.

His best finish at the U.S. Open was a tie for ninth last year at Pinehurst.
