Canada’s Aurélie Rivard has set a new world record in the women’s S10 100-metre freestyle with a time of 58.60 seconds in her heat at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The 25-year-old from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., previously held the fastest time in the event before she broke it Friday evening in the pool.

Rivard is already a medal winner at the Paralympics in Tokyo, capturing bronze in the S10 50-m freestyle. She came into the 2020 Paralympics after winning four medals at the 2016 Games in Rio, including three gold.
Rivard will swim in the S10 100-m freestyle final Saturday.
