Canada’s Taylor Pendrith is a PGA Tour tourney winner for the first time in his career.
The 32-year-old native of Richmond Hill, Ont. notched a dramatic, one-stroke victory over American Ben Kohles at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday in McKinney, Texas.
Pendrith turned a one-shot deficit into a one-shot victory on the par-5 18th.
While Pendrith hit the green in two, Kohles found a bad lie with the rough with his second shot and then moved the ball almost nowhere on his third.
The American then chipped onto the green and missed his five-foot par putt. Pendrith, meanwhile, two-putted from 41 feet for the win.
Pendrith was 23 under for the tournament after a 4-under 67 in the final round.
Kohles, a native of nearby Dallas, tied for the lead with a birdie on the par-4 16th after putting his approach within three feet.
The American then took a one-stroke lead with a 19-foot birdie. Pendrith missed the green on the par-3 17th, finding an awkward lie right on the edge of the fairway and rough, but got up and down for a huge par save on a seven-foot putt that rolled around the cup before dropping.
Pendrith’s best previous finish in 74 career PGA Tour events was a tie for second in 2022 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.
The big-hitting Pendrith, who entered the final round with a one-shot lead, has battled injuries throughout his career. He has been dealing with tendinitis in his left shoulder since January 2023.
The Canadian entered the tournament 91st in the season standings and 107th in the world rankings.
Pendrith is the second Canadian winner on the PGA Tour this year after Nick Taylor captured the Phoenix Open in February.
