Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Caufield has won the 2021 Hobey Baker Award.
Caufield, the Canadiens’ 2019 first-round pick (15th overall), led the NCCA in goals (28) and assists (21) en route to capturing back-to-back scoring titles with 49 points in 30 games for the University of Wisconsin. The undersized sniper signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Montreal late last month and is slated to make his pro debut Friday with the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket.
Matt Boldy (Boston College), David Farrance (Boston University), Dylan Holloway (University of Wisconsin), Spencer Knight (Boston College), Jack LaFontaine (University of Minnesota), Dryden McKay (Minnesota State University), Keith Petruzzelli (Quinnipiac University), Shane Pinto (University of North Dakota) and Odeen Tufto (Quinnipiac University) were the other finalists for the award.
