The Montreal Canadiens recalled Emil Heineman from the AHL’s Laval Rocket after placing Tanner Pearson on injured reserve Wednesday.
Pearson, 31, exited Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres with an apparent hand injury. On Sunday, the team announced he would be out four to six weeks for an upper-body injury.
In 27 games this season, his first with the Canadiens, Pearson has four goals and four assists.
Heineman, 22, has one goal and three assists in seven games with the Rocket this season. He was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.
