The Vancouver Canucks have signed veteran defenceman Travis Hamonic to a professional tryout contract, the club announced Sunday.
Word of the potential PTO with Vancouver was originally reported by Elliotte Friedman on Saturday. Per the Canucks, Hamonic is travelling to Vancouver from Winnipeg today and will join them in training camp after a seven-day quarantine period, in line with the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol.
The 30-year-old spent the past three seasons with the Calgary Flames, averaging 20:53 minutes per night over his 193 games with the Albertan club, while putting up 42 points.
The potential move to Vancouver would serve as another in a long line of transitions between the two clubs this off-season, as the Flames are fresh off bringing in longtime Canucks Jacob Markstrom and Chris Tanev as free agents as well.
Prior to his run in Calgary, Hamonic spent seven years with the New York Islanders, posting 146 points through 444 games.
The big-bodied blue-liner was originally drafted 53rd overall by the Islanders back in 2008.
