Capitals’ Tom Wilson suspended six games for high-sticking Maple Leafs’ Noah Gregor

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been suspended six games for high-sticking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor, the department of player safety announced Friday.

The infraction occurred mid-way through the third period of Wednesday’s game as Wilson appeared to swing his stick, catching Gregor in the face. He was assessed a four-minute double minor penalty on the play.

Wilson was offered an in-person hearing, which allowed player safety to hand out a suspension longer than five games. This is the sixth suspension the bruising forward has received throughout his 11 seasons in the NHL. In 2018, the 29-year-old received a 20-game suspension, reduced to 14 games on appeal, for an illegal check to the head.

Wilson has appeared in 66 games for the Capitals this year, scoring 17 goals and 32 points.

The Maple Leafs and Capitals meet for the final time this season on March 28.
