Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth — and now, Albert Pujols.
The St. Louis Cardinals slugger joined baseball royalty on Friday as the fourth player to hit 700 MLB home runs when he took Dodgers reliever Phil Bickford deep in the fourth inning. He hit his 699th home run earlier in the game off starter Andrew Heaney.
Bonds (762) leads the all-time leaderboard, while Aaron (755) and Ruth (714) are second and third.
The home run is also Pujols’ 21st of the season in just 101 games. The three-time MVP was posting a .509 slugging percentage entering the game — his highest mark since 2012.
The 42-year-old has said he will retire once the 2022 MLB season is over.
