Players from the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat have released a joint statement saying they will play Wednesday night’s game “with a heavy heart” but will be doing so “to try to bring joy into people’s lives” in the wake of recent events in the United States.
The players had a meeting together about how to proceed with Wednesday’s night’s game, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, before both teams eventually returned to the court for warm-ups.
Members of both teams knelt during the playing of the U.S. national anthem.
