Connor Bedard enjoying 4 Nations, hopes to play for Canada

Connor Bedard is no stranger to playing for Canada on the international stage, but this time around, he is watching the 4 Nations Face-Off as a spectator.

The Blackhawks forward was back on the ice with his team at practice and like many, couldn’t help but be in awe of the level of competition being played.

“It’s been unreal. It’s probably been the highest level of hockey ever played. I mean, that Canada game, first 10 seconds there’s three fights. I think people were wondering how it would be and it’s been unbelievable to watch,” Bedard said after practice Tuesday. “It’s great for the game, and obviously playing for your country shows a lot of pride. It’s been fun to watch”

Unfortunately, Bedard didn’t make the cut for Canada’s roster this time around but there will be more opportunities going forward.

The 19-year-old will get another chance when NHL players return to the Olympics in 2026, and seeing the competition at the 4 Nations has certainly provided some motivation for Bedard.

“You always want to play for your country,” Bedard said. “I’m watching as a fan now but if you ask anyone in the league they’d want to be on the teams playing for their country. I’m just kind of watching and seeing the little things in how they play and that helps.”

After scoring 22 goals and registering 61 points in 68 games during his rookie season, Bedard hasn’t taken off in his sophomore year with just 16 goals and 49 points in 55 games. He has seen an improvement in production since Chicago made a coaching change as Bedard has 11 goals and 30 points in 29 games since Anders Sorensen replaced Luke Richardson.
