Connor Bedard will miss the remainder of this month for the Chicago Blackhawks.
The superstar centre suffered an upper-body injury on Friday and was placed on injured reserve on Monday. He is eligible to be activated on Dec. 19, but head coach Jeff Blashill announced that Bedard will be re-evaluated in January.
Bedard will not need surgery, Blashill added.
Bedard was injured on a face-off in the final second of Friday’s loss to the St. Louis Blues. He appeared to be holding his right arm and in considerable pain as he skated off the ice and back to the locker room.
After the Blues game, Blashill was quick to rule Bedard out for Saturday’s meeting with the Red Wings but didn’t have any more specifics to add about the injury.
Bedard, 20, is in the midst of a breakout season with 19 goals and 44 points in 31 games, earning consideration for Team Canada at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.
