Czechia forfeits World Juniors game vs. Finland due to positive COVID-19 test

For the second time in two days, a game at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship has been forfeited due to positive COVID-19 tests.

This time, Czechia is the team unable to play after entering a quarantine following one positive test by a player. As a result, their game against Finland on Wednesday afternoon in Edmonton will not be played and instead will be scored as a 1-0 win for Finland in the standings.

The news comes one day after the United States were forced to forfeit their game against Switzerland in Red Deer, Alta., due to two positive COVID-19 tests. The United States is scheduled to face Sweden Wednesday night but there is no word yet on if that game will be given the green light.

Czechia last played Monday — an overtime loss to Germany — and also lost to Canada on Sunday. The team is next scheduled to play Thursday afternoon against Austria to close out the preliminary round.
