Novak Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud at the French Open 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-5, passing Rafael Nadal as the all-time men’s leader for Grand Slam wins with a 23rd title.
The Serbian has won both Grand Slam titles this tennis season, after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Australian Open.
Ruud took an early advantage by breaking Djokovic on his very first serve. The Serbian then clawed his way back to force a tiebreak and took the first set.
Djokovic sailed through the second set 6-3, winning 88 per cent of his first serve points to push the Norwegian in the ropes.
After a tightly contested third set, Djokovic broke Ruud and served for the championship to claim his third career victory at Roland Garros.
More to come.
