Djokovic defeats Kyrgios, captures 21st Grand Slam title at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam title and seventh Wimbledon championship on Sunday. Djokovic trailed to Nick Kyrgios in the first set but won the next three, sealing a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory.

With a seventh win, Djokovic is now tied for the second-most Wimbledon men’s titles alongside tennis greats Pete Sampras and Willam Renshaw. The only men’s singles player to have won more at the All-England Club is Roger Federer with eight. Martina Navratilova has nine Wimbledon women’s singles titles to her name.

Kyrgios broke Djokovic early and took the first set. The Serbian responded by taking a 2-1 lead by the third set.

Kyrgios did not go down without a fight in the fourth set. The Australian, who was playing his first Grand Slam final, took Djokovic to a tiebreak. The Serbian flew past Kyrgios 7-4 in the tiebreak to take the championship.

Djokovic clinched his very first win against Kyrgios, the 35-year-old was 0-2 all-time against the Aussie before Sunday’s final.
