Normally, I say to hell with fashion “rules,” but a wedding is certainly one place where I’ll happily abide by tradition as a guest—after all, it’s not my day to shine. The unspoken guidelines include not wearing white and not upstaging the couple, and they’re easy enough to follow for one evening.
That said, when the groom specifically asks you to wear white and dresses you in his own designs, that’s a whole different story. This was clearly the case at the wedding of designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri in Charleval, France. Nearly all of the attendees wore white to the celebrity-packed event, and the lucky ones, including Dua Lipa, were dressed by Jacquemus himself. Her completely sheer, underwear-exposing dress transformed in my mind from a rule breaker to the perfect French fashion moment.
