Emotional Jamal Murray serenaded by Nuggets crowd after Finals win

After becoming just the ninth Canadian to win an NBA championship, Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray was showered with cheers as he gave his interview from the podium while holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

“It’s just an amazing feeling,” the 26-year-old Kitchener native said when asked about winning the title after tearing his ACL in 2021. “A lot of blood sweat and tears to get back to this point.

“Everybody on my team in here, everybody on the floor believed in me. Believed I could get back to myself and I know we’ve proved a lot of doubters wrong.”

Murray scored 14 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out eight assists in Denver’s clinching 94-89 win over the Miami Heat. In the Finals, he averaged 21.4 points and 10.0 assists on 45 per cent shooting, helping guide the Nuggets to their first championship in franchise history.
